Though these may look like eclectic and abstract LEGO sculptures, they hide two different LEGO sculptures that can only be seen from certain angles and with the help of some lighting. Though already interesting enough to look at as a piece of contemporary art, careful rotation of these sculptures reveal three different representations hidden within.
These incredible sculptures are the work of scientist and artist John V. Muntean, a very accomplished man whose 1990 thesis led him to these ‘magic angle sculptures’. Living and working near Chicago, Illinois, he has been creating these sculptures for decades. However, he has only recently turned to making them out of LEGO blocks.
His artist’s statement does an excellent job of explaining his passion. “As a scientist and artist, I am interested in the how perception influences our theory of the universe… Our scientific interpretation of nature often depends upon our point of view. Perspective matters.”
