Up Close And Personal With Bees And The First 3 Weeks Of Their Life

Bees are an incredibly important part of nature and agriculture, but they are under serious pressure due to disease, habitat loss, pesticide use, and a dangerous kind of mite that weakens their immune systems.

Working with National Geographic and UC Davis, photographer Anand Varma photographed and recorded high quality videos and images of bees he kept in his backyard in an attempt to study them and the parasitic mites. Nature can be somewhat revolting, but it is always impressive and beautiful in its own way.

Below are two videos; the first is the video of the first three weeks of a bee’s life, and the second is a more in-depth look at the challenges facing bees and agriculture around the world, though it also features the growth and development video about bees.
