Calvin Seibert builds sand castles inspired by modern architecture. His sculptures are minimal in appearance, yet complex in form. They feature a mix of geometrical shapes and neat angular edges, that it’s hard to believe are made of sand and water.
“A lot of people assume I must use some sort of binder to get the edges so neat and I can assure everyone it’s not necessary. Just water and sand. The beach is like the wilderness, I wouldn’t think of leaving garbage behind.”, says Calvin Seibert to Marvelous.
The artist explains that nature is always against you and that time is always running out when building sand castles. He rarely starts with a plan. He either follows the path he starts seeing as forms take shape, or attempt to contradict it with something unexpected.
