Born on the 15th of November, 1989, in the English city of Southampton, Ed Fairburn is an exceptionally talented artist who has exhibited his works in a variety of galleries in the UK, the USA, and even in several international venues. He composed portraits of individuals, but his canvas is a map instead of an unspoiled field of white.
Though an unusual medium to tackle, Fairburn’s clients are quite well-known and significant. He has been commissioned for works that have been sold to Penguin, Nike, New Republic magazine, the British Army, and the British Secret Intelligence Service, also known as MI6.
Fairburn uses a variety of maps to create his incredible portraits. There are old city maps of Amsterdam, topographical maps of the German countryside, and old survey maps among other styles. They are expressive, surreal, and with an air of relatability and realness to it all. It very much captures a sometimes intangible aspect of humanity.
