Art is what you make of it, and the more creative the better in the minds of many. Dino Tomic is no different, even though he’s only recently begun crafting such incredible works in his chosen medium of salt. He popped into the internet’s attention when he submitted his own work to the fine folks over at Bored Panda.
In Mr. Tomic’s own words, “testing out new techniques and expanding your artistic field – going from one medium to another and taking new knowledge with you for each last piece you did. That’s how you build character and versatile your artistic abilities, either mastering one subject or many, as long as you determination is there you will feel progress and finally succeed.”
He has certainly found success, even though he freely admits that the salt art and salt mandalas are just a stepping stone for him. It’s all about challenging himself and to try new and exciting things, while improving upon the medium. That’s what interests him.
“Pushing a medium to new heights, and backing it up with my knowledge of past projects speeds up the process,” he says. “Overcoming past set boundaries and rising the bar higher is of utmost importance for me. Isolating one particular part that does not present the whole process of why I’m doing/creating the artwork today. Doing projects like these test my abilities as an artistic creator, they open my eyes and refresh my senses.”
If art is therapeutic and all about self-improvement and doing new things in his eyes, then we can’t wait to see the projects he has in store for us in the future.
