This aesthetically-pleasing series by the name of ‘Split Grain’ is the work of Californian minimalist designer Paul Foeckler. Each piece is uniquely marvelous as they are made from reclaimed pieces of wood from ash, to red cedar, and nearly all in between.
It’s quite interesting to hear how the designer got started. Via their artist’s statement, “The project began with me taking notice of an ordinary piece of firewood and thinking it too beautiful to burn. The exterior texture and shape had such organic appeal that I started experimenting.”
That experimentation would lead him to further exploration of the beauty of nature, and capturing it in an appealing contemporary design style. The grain of the wood becomes a major part of the focus, merging art with functionality to incredible success.
