The See Through House Becomes A Miraculous Work Of Art At Night

Lucid Stead is a cabin located in Joshua Tree, California. Originally a homesteader’s shack, it was built over 70 years ago. Keeping the integral architecture intact, installation artist Phillip K. Smith III, removed some of the wood siding and replaced it with mirrors which cast a reflective light that changes throughout the day with the movement of the sun. Towards dusk, into the night, the windows and door light up with LED lights, gradually changing colour. When the windows and doors are illuminated, an interested visual effect occurs; the framing components of the shack are visible through the siding and mirrors.

Unfortunately Lucid Stead is no longer installed for the public to view/access and there are no immediate plans for the re-installation of the work.
