Taxidermy is one of those skills you either appreciate or are immensely put off by. Usually, this has to do with one’s stance on animals, conservation, and hunting. But this particular – and stunning – form of taxidermy by artist Courtney Timmermans is unlike anything you have ever seen.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Courtney currently resides in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in Lexington back in 2004 with a BA, and it was her ‘Urban Herd’ exhibition in 2013 that began to garner her some internet exposure. Since then, she has added more works in the series and they are on display at the Jean Albano Gallery in Chicago.
There is an impressive amount of realism to be found in her glimmering busts of wild animals. They speak to a more contemporary audience and feel like a real representation of the wild, even though they are made from thousands of air rifle BB pellets. Giving life and form to balls of metal is an incredible talent, indeed.
